I was born in Guildford, Surrey, n the southern part of England, and Joanna, my wife, was born in Athens, Greece, but raised on the beautiful island of Cyprus (Greek is her mother tongue). We have been blessed with four children, Christine, Michael, Donna, and Geoffrey, and six grandchildren. Only Geoffrey, who graduated from college four years ago is holding out from getting married. We have six grandchildren at present.
During my military service with the British Royal Air Force in Cyprus I met Joanna, and we were married. In 1963 we immigrated to the United States from England. We traveled across the ocean on the Queen Mary (it took five days), which is now a tourist attraction in Long Beach, California. After living for various lengths of time in New York City, Rhode Island, and New Jersey, we eventually settled down in the beautiful State of Missouri, which is near the middle of the United States.
We have a dog and a cat. Joanna is enjoying a time at home, and helps me by proofreading my endless writings. I give seminars on the subject of Creation, Evolution, and Dinosaurs, write theological and inspirational material, and service pianos. Oh, yes, I almost forgot, we are a musical family. I play the violin and “play around” at the piano. Of our four children, Michael is our concert pianist, Geoffrey and Donna also play the piano, and Donna, Geoffrey and Christine sing. Joanna listens, but I think she may have contributed something to those great singing voices! Michael, Donna, and Geoffrey all graduated with music degrees from different colleges and universities. Christine is a computer programmer.
I won’t bore you with my educational background, except to say that for over 40 years I have applied myself to studying the Bible, and have discovered that all the available evidence points very clearly to the fact that the Bible is truly God’s Word to this world. I have also studied in the fields of education and science, and have come to the realization that the more I know, the more I realize how little I know.
For the Butterworth family, life has been challenging, fulfilling, and yes, sometimes even exciting amidst some of the trials that all families go through. But we believe the best is yet to come. If you don’t feel this way about life, we hope you will find something in our site that will change that. God bless you,
Rod & Joanna.
